Butterfly was flapping straight and level, when it encountered a
thermal, switched to circling and soaring, and began gaining altitude. Another D.
plexippus was seen flying at about the same altitude. High scans were not
productive. Swifts were flapping. |

stronger lift, began circle, and rapidly gained altitude. Two more D. plexippus
were also seen, one flying higher and and one flying lower. |

of weak lift without gaining altitude. It then switched to variable flight, including
some flapping, encountered or located a patch of stronger lift , began to soar in circles
and gain altitude. |
